    Interview and fingerprints

    Complete the Sheriff investigator interview and fingerprinting as instructed by the Sheriff’s Office.

    Permit decision

    The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office reviews your application and issues the permit.

For initial applicants, Riverside Sheriff online application and issuance fees total $205.39, including online transaction fees. This is paid separately from course tuition. Renewal applicants should follow the Sheriff’s current renewal fee instructions.

Online CCW Training for Riverside County Communities

Riverside County residents can complete the online education portion from their own community. Online coursework is followed by a required in-person live-fire qualification and the Riverside County Sheriff’s application process—the permit process is not entirely online.

Can I take the online course if I live elsewhere in Riverside County?

Yes. Riverside County residents can complete the online education portion from any community in the county. The course is followed by a required in-person live-fire qualification and the Sheriff’s application process.

Where do I complete live-fire qualification?

Live-fire qualification is completed in person with Riverside CCW Training. In Riverside it is $75, paid at time of booking, and separate from online tuition.

Which course should I choose for an initial application or renewal?

Choose the Resident Initial course ($195, normally $325) if you are applying for the first time. Choose the Resident Renewal course ($125, normally $200) if you already hold a Riverside-issued CCW.

Does online training mean I can receive my permit entirely online?

No. Only the education portion is online. Live-fire qualification is in person, and fingerprinting, Sheriff fees, and the permit decision are handled separately through your issuing agency. If you are unsure which agency issues permits for your address, verify with that agency.

How long is a California CCW permit valid?

Standard California CCW licenses issued before January 1, 2027, keep the expiration date printed on the license. Beginning January 1, 2027, standard licenses issued or renewed may be valid for up to three years, depending on the issuing agency’s issuance period. Existing two-year licenses are not automatically extended.

Will my CCW application be completed within 120 days?

California law requires the issuing agency to give written notice of approval or denial within 120 days of receiving a completed initial application, or 30 days after receiving the required DOJ information, whichever is later. For renewal applications submitted on or after September 1, 2026, a similar later-date rule applies. This is a deadline for a decision notice, not a promise that a permit will be issued within 120 days. Applicants should follow requests in their Sheriff application.
